Community Involvement

After we have determined a pressing need in a community, we design action steps that involve the communities we serve at every stage. Because we serve communities that lack the most basic infrastructure, our work usually involves building.

  • We work with health and/or educational professionals and community leaders to determine the specific and distinct purposes of a structure, and work with an engineer and architect to develop building plans.

  • Because materials are quite expensive and often difficult to procure, we provide whatever concrete, cinder blocks, tinder, hardware, roofing materials, steel beams, electrical conduit, and plumbing materials is necessary.

  • We provide site managers who organize implementation of all stages of the action plan, and supervise workers during the building process.

  • We provide hand tools and equipment.

Then. . .

Volunteers from the communities we serve do the rest.

The secret of Safina’s success lies in a rich culture of direct and sustained community action
